Read about corrosion in underground storage tanks (USTs), concerned that you are unaware of the condition of your tank(s) but don’t know where to start?

The article from NACS about Corrosion in USTs describes the risk – https://lnkd.in/gTP3ith

The most likely cause of the corrosion, as the article describes, may be microorganisms that thrive in diesel fuel and feed off the hydrocarbons in fuel and water in the fuel which can come from everyday unavoidable events such as humidity and/or condensation in the tank.

This is such a well-known problem that the predominant microbe, a fungus, is not known generally by its scientific name Hormoconis resinae but as ‘Diesel Bug’.

These microorganisms eventually form a biomass then this biomass causes the production of corrosive acids occurs and these acids pit corrodes the metal surfaces of the tank.

This is an environmentally serious issue as well as the obvious commercial and operational ramifications to the business.

FUELSTAT® Plus Fuel Testing kit will accurately tell you in 10 minutes what type of contamination you may have in your tank, and to what levels, low, moderate or high.

Used as a regular test after the initial investigation of the tank regular use of FUELSTAT® will monitor the condition of the tank.

The ideal situation is that microbial contamination does not affect your tank(s) and a regime of regular water draining is recommended.

If contamination does get a foothold, and it only take a droplet to feed the microbes, so small they are invisible to the human eye, they can double in quantity in only 20 minutes and cause large scale infections in as little as a few weeks. Firstly though the microbes will form this biomass and with regular testing with FUELSTAT® it is most likely that contamination would be caught at the earliest stages requiring a dose of biocide to kill the microbes before they start producing acids and attacking the tank structure.

FUELSTAT® is a well-established product, sold in over 100 countries globally, at the forefront of detecting microbial contamination in fuels.
